Box Tunneling

Limited Access Tunneling

Box tunneling is similar to the segmental tunnel lining process, but it’s square in shape and best for smaller diameters. This method is typically for shorter runs (around 100′) with limited access points at either the working or receiving ends.

This method is only feasible in cohesive ground that does not flow or subside.

Benefits of Box Tunneling:

  • Best for limited access areas
  • Simple, effective method with a high success rate
  • Little to no disruption to surface, buildings, rail, or traffic
  • Safe, fast method with low operating costs
